We are grateful to all who have participated in our programs/events, supported us in many ways, collaborated with us in 2021. We are excited to share some pivotal progress from last year and would like to take this opportunity to thank you.
◇◆◇ Inaugural Board Fellow Program successfully finished ◇◆◇
WIT launched Board Fellow Program – Japan’s first program focused on nonprofit governance and board training in 2021 summer. A diverse group of 24 business and nonprofit leaders participated and spent six months learning about nonprofit governance and discussing top challenges nonprofits. The first cohort’s theme was Inclusion & Empowerment, in particular, achieving a society where women can realize their full potential even after having children. In addition, the participants cultivated mutual understanding, looking forward to long-term collaborations, such as having corporate employees serve on nonprofit boards, a practice that is still rare in Japan.
The application for the second cohort will start in early Spring. Stay tuned!
◇◆◇ WIT will become World in You! ◇◆◇
WIT will change our name for the second time to World in You early this year. We are confident this is our last name change! (Our original name was World in Asia, and we became World in Tohoku (WIT) in 2014.) However, our founding philosophy has always been the same, even under different names. That is to bring people together from all walks of life to make a better world. So we decided to express our vision straightforward by taking off geographical focus from our name.
Thank you very much to more than 50 people who gave us valuable feedback in our decision-making process with our board and voting members.
We will announce our new website and logo in early spring. We are also looking for new team members. Please get in touch with us if you are interested!

◇◆◇ Big progress in overseas expansion support for Japanese social entrepreneurs ◇◆◇
We had two exciting news in 2021. First, one of the Board Fellow Program participating nonprofits, Nobel, has been selected as one of 34 organizations to receive funds from the Google.org Impact Challenge for Women and Girls! WIT jointly applied with Nobel and will continue to work with Nobel on overseas collaboration, fundraising, and more. In addition, WheeLog, a nonprofit WIT has supported since 2018, has been selected as one of the Impact Innovators at Dubai Expo and presented in UAE last November. We are excited to continue to catalyze global partnerships for social impact.
